Event: Show Me Your Bits
Data visualisation combines statistical analysis and design principles to make information more understandable. Visualisations are increasingly found in policy, advocacy, scientific analysis, and risk communication. But blurring disciplines can lead to host of messy problems. Can open data and communicable design reinvigorate democracy? When does a visualisation cross the line from “just the facts” to manipulative propaganda? Where does Science stop and Art begin?
Show Me Your Bits brings together data geeks, policy wonks, designers, artists, and advocates to explore these and related issues for a night of quick fire talks, impassioned discussion, and design from the front lines. An exhibition of visualisations will continue for the following week.
Speakers and artist profiles will be updated as these are confirmed. Opening Friday May 18th, 5.30pm
NB: This exhibition is only possible due to the hard work of Concerned Citizens and the building owner’s generosity. To cover operating costs we suggest a koha of $5 (but nobody turned away).
