June 12-17th: Tracers into the Abyss

Tracers into the Abyss showcases a new style and series of work exhibited for the first time by BFA graduate Priyavanti Makwana. It has three main themes, the first is that of exploring the unconscious through an abstract intuitive style of drawing/painting developed over the last two years. The second is that of combining elements of the East and the West to comment on the nature of today’s society as a post-colonial, post-globalisation society. And lastly it examines the idea of preciousness and how do we value objects in today’s materialistic society? Is it through the permanence of the object or through its transient ephemeral nature?
